Across the country, hundreds of community groups, educators, artists, non-profit organizations and residents are reaching their community through one of the most powerful communications tools... cable television.  They are creating programs for their communities with the help of their local "public access" channel.

Public access is a free service provided by Comcast.  It is a way to provide everyday people with or without television production experience a way to produce programming that is important to themselves and their community.  It is specifically designed to cater to the residents of these communities by providing an outlet for their talents.  Unlike broadcast television, the content of your show is controlled by you.  It is only limited by the rules and regulations of public access and certain FCC rules, and it must be non-profit.  At Comcast, we realize how vital public access is to our residents and therefore, have a strong commitment to providing the best outlet for their ideas.  This commitment is also evident by the hundreds of community members and non-profit organizations we certify each year.

Comcast provides the tools necessary for community members to begin the process of creating programming by offering public access certification classes, offered at most of our public access facilities.  Anyone who resides in a community serviced by Comcast or who works for organizations and agencies which serve these communities can become a Comcast certified public access producer.  These classes are held throughout the year and taught by the professionally trained staff at Comcast.

In this class you will learn how to put a production together from start to finish. You will also learn every aspect of a production (ie: camera, audio, lighting, etc). At the end of the class you will not only have the knowledge to put together a television production, you will put together a show!

Upon completion of the public access certification class, public access producers are then able to create their important community program and have it aired on Comcast's public access channel.  This channel has been set aside by Comcast specifically for residents of the communities we serve, who wish to get their meaningful message out to the community.

While becoming certified isn't a requirement to have a show air on the public access channel, it does lend the advantage of allowing you the use of our equipment and gain a higher priority on the playback schedule.

Comcast also provides support to villages and cities by covering their community events and airing the programs on the public access channel.

We encourage our residents to take advantage of this free service provided to you.  We hope to see you in class soon!
